The Mourners arranges three female figures in a triangular composition against a vivid cobalt blue frame, all in matching white lace iro and buba, each carrying skull paint in cobalt blue that nearly disappears into the background, grief worn so subtly it is almost invisible. The back-centre figure stands with both arms raised and curved above her head in formal lamentation. The two front figures bend slightly forward from the waist, hands pressed to their own chests. From the raised hands of the central figure, white handkerchiefs fall slowly, each one catching the cobalt light differently on its way down. This deeply felt mixed media fine art print is Giclée printed on museum quality 310gsm Textured Fine Art Cotton Rag, limited to just 20 prints in the world. A formal and visually compelling Nigerian painting about grief that is also performance, and performance that is also grief, available at Naija Art Store.
