Ṣàngó Ẹgúngún brings together the two most electrically charged traditions in Yoruba spiritual life, the ancestral masquerade and the thunder deity Sango, in a single Egungun figure wearing a costume of red, white, and electric blue aso-oke strips with the double-headed oshe Sango axe embroidered across the chest panel. One arm is raised straight above the head in the Egungun blessing posture and the Sango thunder-wielding stance simultaneously. Along the raised arm, small arcs of red and blue lightning descend slowly from the closed fist, the body conducting something it was always built for.
