Oya at the Market brings the Yoruba deity of transformation, storms, and the marketplace into the most ordinary of her domains, a vivid violet frame where she stands in full nine-layered Oya regalia, each layer a different colour, the combined volume of the skirts giving her lower body a sculptural mass that could fill a room. She stands with arms loosely at her sides, head slightly tilted, as if she has paused mid-step in a market and is assessing what still needs to be done. By her feet at ankle height, the nine market objects associated with Oya are arranged in a local trading shelf, aubergines, copper coins, cowries, and more. This is a one of one original piece, the only work of its kind in the world, a mixed media fine art work of photography and digital art, Giclée printed on museum quality 310gsm Textured Fine Art Cotton Rag. A vivid and joyful Nigerian painting available at Naija Art Store.
