Owu Masquerade captures the water spirit masquerade from Ondo in a pose that embodies its elemental identity, the body twisted at the waist in mid-flow, one arm extended forward from the turned shoulder with fingers spreading, the other extending behind, the whole figure shaped like water caught mid-current and frozen as a standing body. Around the masquerade’s feet on the deep river teal floor, perfectly still water pools as a mirror surface reflecting not the ceiling but an open sky.
