Nwunye Di, meaning Wife, presents a woman in her mid-thirties entirely from behind, a rear-view portrait that gives us her straight back, the full Igbo marriage george wrapper in forest green and gold, the beautifully tied ichafu, and the arms held slightly away from the sides in the posture of someone who holds space. We see nothing of her face. From between her shoulder blades, not from her hands and not from her head but from the spine itself, thick living green vines grow outward and upward, filling the upper two-thirds of the frame with lush growth that originates entirely in her back.
