Nkisi Nkondi draws from the Kongo tradition of power figures, objects and bodies that absorb pain on behalf of communities, placing a male figure with arms slightly outstretched and head gently bowed in the posture of the traditional nkisi nkondi statue. He wears layered dark ceremonial cloth in black and red. Into his extended forearms and chest, pressed into but not through the fabric, dozens of small copper nails protrude, each representing an oath, an illness, a community’s need absorbed and held. The nails are not violent. They are accumulated trust. This significant and visually striking mixed media African painting is Giclée printed on museum quality 310gsm Textured Fine Art Cotton Rag, issued as a limited edition of only 20 prints worldwide. A work of fine art rooted in the deepest tradition of Central African spiritual practice, available at Naija Art Store for collectors of serious cultural work.
