Mmanwu Nọ N’ụlọ, meaning The Masquerade at Home, seats a fully costumed Igbo mmanwu spirit figure in an ordinary plastic chair, one arm draped over the chair back, one leg crossed over the other at the knee, in the unmistakable posture of someone between performances when nobody is watching. The elaborate traditional raffia and patterned cloth of the costume fills and spills from the chair. On the armrest where the masquerade’s arm rests, a steaming cup of tea sits, placed by no one, belonging to the spirit on its break. This gently hilarious and surprisingly tender mixed media fine art print is Giclée printed on museum quality 310gsm Textured Fine Art Cotton Rag and limited to just 20 prints in the world. A beloved piece of Nigerian painting available at Naija Art Store for collectors who understand that the sacred also rests.
