Midnight Masquerade catches two African masquerade figures crossing a midnight violet frame at opposite margins, one entering from the left, one exiting at the right, both mid-stride in the same direction, and between them a wide empty space of dark consequence. The entering figure is fully visible, trailing costume swirling. The exiting figure is half-consumed by the frame’s right edge. In the empty centre between them, a perfect circle of white light glows on the midnight floor, a moon that has come to rest at ground level, illuminating the space between arrivals and departures.
