Jankidi draws from the Hausa Sallah festival tradition of ceremonial sacrifice, presenting a large male figure in a grand saffron yellow babban riga with one arm raised, elbow bent, forearm vertical, holding a long ceremonial knife blade-upward in the classic pre-sacrifice posture. The babban riga matches the background so that only his charcoal silhouette and the gleaming blade are distinct. From the tip of the raised blade, instead of anything threatening, a single thread of pure white wool hangs and unravels slowly downward, the instrument of sacrifice repurposed as softness. This is a one of one original piece, the only work of its kind in the world, a mixed media fine art work of photography and digital art, Giclée printed on museum quality 310gsm Textured Fine Art Cotton Rag. A powerful and nuanced Nigerian painting about ritual, ceremony, and the tenderness inside the act of sacrifice. Available at Naija Art Store.
