Enkiage, drawing from the Maasai tradition of beadwork as personal biography, presents a Maasai woman in full frontal view against a sunbaked red ochre background, arms slightly away from the body to display the extraordinary layered beadwork covering her from neck to waist, the density of the ornamentation forming a second body over her charcoal figure. From the edges of the outermost bead strands, dozens of tiny beads have begun to detach and drift slowly outward into the red background, the biography floating away one bead at a time.
