Egungun Back offers something rare in the Afrosurreal tradition, a full rear view. The Egungun ancestral masquerade walks away from the camera into a deep teal background, its elaborate layered aso-oke costume visible only from behind, the long trailing fabric swirling slightly with the motion of departure. We see nothing of the face. We see everything of the leaving. Where the masquerade’s feet should be visible beneath the trailing costume, there are no feet, the fabric meets the floor seamlessly, the ancestor moving without a body, spirit consuming its own physical evidence as it goes. This haunting mixed media fine art print is Giclée printed on museum quality 310gsm Textured Fine Art Cotton Rag and limited to just 20 prints worldwide. A deeply evocative African painting about departure, the ancestral, and the view we are always left with when the sacred moves on. Available at Naija Art Store.
