Daughters of the Same River lines five female figures from five different African cultural traditions, Yoruba, Igbo, Maasai, Zulu, and Ashanti, across a vivid electric cobalt blue frame, all facing the camera in five genuinely different and individual postures. Arms folded on one, hands on hips on another, arms at sides, one hand slightly raised, one leaning gently to the left. Between each adjacent pair of figures, the negative space glows faintly, slightly more luminous than the background around it, as if the space between women who understand each other carries its own charge.
