Before the Dance arranges six female figures in a wide horizontal line across a hot coral pink frame, each wearing a slightly different shade of pink aso-ebi lace that graduates from pale blush at the left to deep magenta at the right, a gradient of belonging expressed through six bodies. All six stand with feet together, arms at sides, eyes forward, balanced on the balls of their feet in the body’s subtle lean toward what is about to happen. Above all six heads at the same height, a horizontal line of coral flower petals floats suspended, thrown and stopped mid-air, waiting for the music before continuing to fall.
