Aṣọ Ẹbí gathers five female figures across a vivid emerald green frame, all wearing the same green lace fabric but each interpreting it entirely differently. One is formally and perfectly dressed, one draped loosely, one with the wrapper hiked high, one with it trailing to the floor, one wearing only a small sash of the fabric over a plain white dress. Above all five, a single length of the same uncut, unstitched fabric floats, the bolt they all came from, raw and hovering over the five interpretations it has become. This is a one of one original piece, the only work of its kind anywhere in the world, a mixed media fine art work of photography and digital art, Giclée printed on museum quality 310gsm Textured Fine Art Cotton Rag. A sharp and culturally astute Nigerian painting about belonging, individuality, and the politics of wearing the same cloth as everyone else. Available at Naija Art Store.
