Àkàrà at Dawn photographs a woman standing over a large frying pan at waist height in the deep pre-dawn indigo of a city not yet awake, her face above the pan illuminated from below by the glow of the oil, one arm extended with a large ladle. The hot oil in the pan below does not contain àkàrà. It contains small suns, each one a perfect golden sphere floating in the oil, frying gently, their light the only light in the dark background. She fries the morning into existence. This richly atmospheric mixed media African painting is Giclée printed on museum quality 310gsm Textured Fine Art Cotton Rag, issued as a limited edition of only 20 prints worldwide. A powerful and joyful Nigerian painting about the women who begin the day before the day begins, available exclusively at Naija Art Store.
